July 7, 2009 - Wildfire Mitigation Committee Resolution Approved

In response to a history of wildfires in past years, the Highlands County Board of County Commissioners (Board) applied for and received a Fire Prevention and Safety grant from the FEMA to prepare a County Wildfire Mitigation Plan (Plan).  The Board, at its July 7, 2009, meeting, approved a resolution, which establishes a Highlands County Wildfire Mitigation Committee (WMC).  The primary purpose of the WMC will be to provide advice and guidance for development of the Plan as well as review drafts of the Plan as it is being prepared.  Organizations represented include local governments, private and non-profit agencies, at-risk citizen representatives, and partner agencies such as the Florida Division of Forestry.  A copy of the approved resolution can be found on the “Documents” section of this website.
