July 30, 2009 - Wildfire Mitigation Committee Kick-off Meeting

The initial meeting of the Highlands County Wildfire Mitigation Committee will be held from 1:00 – 3:30 PM on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at the Bert J. Harris, Jr. Agricultural Center, Conference Room 2, 4509 George Boulevard, Sebring.  While some of the meeting will be devoted to organizational matters, two important presentations are on the agenda.  One will involve a discussion along with which will include a host of maps of wildfire risk in Highlands County.  The second presentation will involve a presentation by the Florida Division of Forestry and one of the three “Firewise” communities in the County.  They will discuss the national Firewise Communities/USA recognition program and reasons why individual developments should consider participating if they are in a high wildfire risk area.
